Brian J. Smith, DMD

Dr. Smith opened Palmetto Dental Arts in 1999 after completing a general practice residentcy at Palmetto Richland Health Systems. He graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He and his wife have 4 young children.

Elizabeth D. Shelly, DDS

Dr. Shelly's emphasis is in restorative dentistry, including veneers, dentures, crowns (including CEREC single-visit ceramic crowns when appropriate)-everything from a simple filling to full mouth rehabilitation. Working with many TMJ (Temporomandibular joint disorder) patients, Dr. Shelly offers relief through corrective dental therapy and/or appropriate restorations.

Kathy Toney, Office Coordinator

Kathy has worked in almost every capcity in a dental office for the past 22 years. She is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. She and her husband have a daughter in first grade.

Julie Harvey, Patient Care Coordinator

Julie has been a hygienist for 10 years and has recently made the transition to the front office as patient care coordinator. She is a professor in the hygiene program at Armstrong State University in Savannah. Her husband is a Battalion Chief with the Bluffton Fire Department.

Kelsey Menke, Dental Hygienist

Kelsey has been a hygienist for 5 years at Palmetto Dental Arts. She and her husband (and their 3 dogs!) are expecting their first baby in November.

Michele Rizzo, Dental Hygienist

Shelly has been a hygienist for 15 years. On her time off, she is a team captain for the American Cancer Society, volunteers for the Bluffton Fins Swim Team and her daughter's school. Her family loves to be outdoors, enjoying all the lowcountry has to offer - crabbing, fishing and wallowing in the pluff mud!

Carrie Friesen, Clinical Assistant

Carrie is a long way from home - Spokane, Washington. Her husband is a youth pastor and Carrie works alongside him as well. She has two beautiful baby girls!
