Our periodontics services are designed to slow down gum disease and provide you with better oral health.

Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is caused when bacteria in plaque (a sticky, colorless film that forms in the mouth) builds up between the gums and teeth. When the bacteria begin to grow, the gums surrounding the tooth can become inflamed.

Periodontal treatment controls any infection that exists and halts progression of the disease. In more advanced cases, surgery may be required to restore supportive tissues. If you feel concerned about your gums and would like a professional to exam them, set up a consultation today.

About Periodontics

What is Periodontics?

Periodontics focuses on inflammatory diseases affecting the gums and other areas around the teeth. A periodontist is a dentist that specializes in preventing, diagnosing and treating gum disease and placing dental implants.

Our periodontists are specialists in their field and always remain fully up-to-date with the latest research and treatments related to gum disease and periodontics. We are able to treat a wide array of relevant cases and can help if you have lost bone and tissue in the mouth, have an infected root surface or are experiencing gingivitis to give just a few examples.

What are the benefits of Periodontics?

Our periodontics services are designed to slow down gum disease and provide you with better oral health. We have years of experience to draw upon and always do the best we can to resolve your issue.

There are two main types of gum disease: gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis affects everyone at least one time or another. Symptoms can include red and swollen gums that bleed easily. Gingivitis can clear itself up if effective cleaning takes place.

Periodontitis is more serious, though the symptoms are similar to those of gingivitis in the early stages. It can involve irreversible damage to the bone that supports the teeth. We can provide the treatments you need to lessen the impact of periodontitis and stop further damage taking place, whether you’re experiencing Chronic or Aggressive Periodontitis.

How do you treat Periodontal Disease?

Gum disease is not usually painful to treat. We can offer a local anesthetic if we think the treatment we give to you might be uncomfortable. It is important that you stick to an efficient cleaning regime before, during and after treatment.

The treatment we offer consists of removing hard and soft deposits of Plaque and Calculus that are stuck to the teeth. We need to remove these meticulously to ensure the treatment is effective. Once these deposits are removed, you will have a clean oral environment for your gum tissues to heal. The treatment can take around 5-6 visits. In rare cases, we do need to consider Periodontal Surgery.

Who has Periodontal Disease?

Around four out of ten people have experienced signs of Periodontitis by the age of 60. It’s important not to simply associate gum disease with elderly people. We regularly treat clients in their twenties and teens.

Smokers, people with diabetes and those suffering from stress may be particularly vulnerable to gum disease. Contact us today to learn more about our periodontics services.
